Crowns are the most common dental treatments used for tooth repair.  A crown is a cap that covers the entire upper part of the tooth.  A crown can be used for cracked, worn, or broken teeth above the gum line and are also used in bigger dental procedures, such as root canals, implants, or bridges.   A crown is used when the remaining tooth structure is not enough to hold a filling. A crown is also used after a tooth has had a root canal because it that tooth may become brittle. A crown holds the tooth together like a big hug ad restores the tooth to it's ideal shape, form and color.

Making a crown for your tooth takes two appointments. The first appointment is to prepare the tooth for a crown and put on a temporary crown. You will wear that temporary crown for about two weeks.

Most of the crowns we make these days are zirconia, no metal. Dr Behrens will suggest a crown type that is best for your individual needs.
